6 week old Tate

This next family was referred to me by a friend who I think is one of the nicest people I know so I should have known I was going to love this family. Tate was asleep when we started and I each time I look at the first picture I have to laugh because it sums up just what I want to say to people when I am sound asleep.
Tate's nursery walls provided such great color for the end of our shoot. The blue was almost as beautiful as his eyes.

My new lense...a dream and then a nightmare!!

A while back I mentioned that I was in love w/ a new Canon lense but was trying my best to not indulge myself. Well I couldn't hold out any longer. The 50mm 1.2 lense joined my arsenal a week ago last Friday. Last Tuesday I took my boys to my favorite warehouse/trainspotting spot and could not resist putting the lense through it's paces. I was LOVING the lense!! Just as we were finishing up I went to pick up Oscar and down went my camera and my heart sank to my toes!! 5 days after getting my most prized possesion it was split in two! I was sick to my stomach. I jumped in my car and immediately called the best camera guy in town (Camera Techs) and dropped it off w/ them hoping they could work wonders on it. And they are...I hope to pick it back up today. Anyway here are a few of the pictures from our outing. The boys were thrilled to have a 4 engine train stop right next to us. They thought it couldn't get any better but then I met a man who let us explore his warehouse of motorcycles. That was a great place to test my lense in low light.
The first two were before the outing but from the same lense.

Cooper did not want to let go of his new pet rock he found alongside the tracks.

Little Miss Keaton

As soon as I walked in the door to little Keaton's home she lit up. Her beaming smile assured me I was going to enjoy every minute with her. Before starting, Keaton needed a quick change which gave me a minute to explore her beautiful nursery. My eyes were quickly drawn to the most fabulous little booties I have ever seen. I told her mom that we had to take a few pictures with them (they were so fabulous that I went directly to Plum to buy a pair for my friend's newborn). And then I turned around and saw an equally fabulous rocking chair (if only I could travel with this chair!!) and we were off and running!!

Since receiving his nomination for a free sitting I was excited to meet and photograph Josh. And I wasn't disappointed when the time finally came. What a GREAT guy. He was so appreciative of Stacey Lara-Kerr for nominating him and of me taking his senior pictures. He let me drag him off the beaten track away from the waterfront to a couple back alleys. We really had fun together and I enjoyed learning more about him. He has high aspirations and I think he has the intellect, heart and drive to make his dreams come true.

Update

Many of you have asked me how Dave McGeoy is doing. I would like to pass on their thanks for thinking of him. I was able to visit him today for the first time and it was so great to see him looking so good. The first 5 days following his surgery were spent in the ICU and were really tough. But he has been improving each day and hoping to go home soon. Working with them has really inspired me. My commitment when I announced the free sitting was to give the "winner" as much of my work & unique products as possible. Today as I handed Dave their 10x10" album tears filled his eyes. They are been so generous in their words of appreciation for what I have done for them. But seeing his reaction to the album cemented just how important it is to give. Hopefully this will inspire someone reading this to do something little for a friend or a stranger. You will get so much more than you give!!
Dave and Shannon are maintaining a blog to update his progress. Here is the link

Last Friday my next little subject made me feel like the baby whisperer. Five minutes into our shoot 3 month old Stephen was a very unhappy camper & thoughts of rescheduling were on the rise. I asked his mom if I could take him for a minute. He immediately stopped and we went on to have so much fun with him. Of course my husband is wondering why my baby whisperer persona is absent in our house.
Look how adorable this little guy is...

Pat (a great client's mom) was surprised last weekend when her 5 sisters came to town for her birthday. It was fun seeing all these women laugh together. I have one sister and cannot imagine the craziness that we would have had if we had 4 more! Here is Pat w/ her sisters, husband and grandkids. At the end of the sitting we went back to my clients house to try and capture a few more formal family pictures. Their youngest was not up for sitting still so we turned it into some fun on the bed. Now if I could get some of my family like these I would be on cloud nine. Jumping on the bed w/ my boys is always full of giggles.

On Sunday I took the boys to visit old neighbors who moved to Bainbridge Island. It was a beautiful morning and I feel in love w/ their property! Here are a few of their boys. I cannot get over the moss...one more reason why I love living in the great NW!
Number 3 is arriving any day. I cannot wait to meet him/her! Good luck Patricia!

The sporadic rain showers of late have been wrecking a little havoc w/ my shoot schedule. But I have to admit I am really enjoying the slower pace of work & the extra time I am getting w/ my boys. This weekend we were able to get out and enjoy the sunbreaks.
After 9 wks in here homeland of Australia my friend is back & I had a great time w/ there family visiting the park the McGeoy family had introduced me to (Jack Block park for the locals). I couldn't leave the camera at home. Hopefully Kelly's mom down under will enjoy a few shots I took of the men in her life.
